The Detox

Detox is the first step on the journey of recovery. The Mend’s medically supervised drug and alcohol detox is a process that allows the body to safely cleanse itself of toxins built up from drug and alcohol abuse while managing the symptoms of withdrawal.

Our treatment team is trained to conduct comprehensive assessments to determine the most effective detox protocols based on the client’s alcohol and substance use history, medical history and individual needs. Our physician utilizes a wide range of safe and effective medications to help manage the physical symptoms of withdrawal. Our detoxification process is tailored to each client’s own unique, specific needs. The Mend’s process goes beyond addressing the physical symptoms of withdrawal and helps initiate the process of recovery.

It’s imperative to seek help for detox, because withdrawal can be painful and even life-threatening in certain cases. The discomfort of withdrawal is one of the primary reasons people leave treatment early or put off treatment altogether. A successful detoxification begins with a comprehensive assessment, followed by proper medication and treatment planning. It is with this recovery approach that we have found astonishing success for our clients.

  • OPIODS – Users of prescription pain killers and heroin experience withdrawal symptoms such as pain, diarrhoea, nausea, and vomiting to varying degrees, but in most cases the withdrawal symptoms are so severe the user feels the need to relapse immediately.
  • ALCOHOL – Alcohol abuse is often overlooked in its severity. A person suffering from alcohol dependency who abruptly discontinues use on their own can experience serious and life-threatening side effects such as dehydration, vomiting, abnormal heart rhythms and most severely, delirium tremens. It’s critical that the client be in a medically supervised environment during alcohol detoxification.
  • BENZODIAZEPINES – Users of prescription anxiety medications can experience severe withdrawal symptoms after discontinuing use. Withdrawal symptoms range from irritability, headaches, sweating and dizziness, to hallucinations, insomnia, panic attacks and seizures. The more prolonged the use, the worse the client’s withdrawal symptoms will be.  Benzodiazepine detox should carried-out under the care of qualified professionals.
  • OTHER DRUGS – Other drugs such as methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana typically have less acute symptoms, but often cause intense cravings and discomfort during the detox process. 24-hour staff supervision and medication can help ease this process and help prevent relapse during this early stage of recovery.

We understand that men and women have unique needs during the process of detox and stabilization, so we offer a gender-specific facility for both men and women. Our mission is to provide high quality treatment services for the specific needs of men and women challenged with substance abuse and/or alcoholism.

We believe that after the client successfully completes the detoxification process, a transition into our residential treatment program followed by outpatient treatment with one of our trusted aftercare provider partners maximizes the chances of success in recovery.

We Understand

We strive to provide professional, timely, effective and individualized interventions to assist our clients. We value each client’s potential and we work hard to help our clients recognize and identify their own potential to assist them in a successful path to recovery. We understand that clients are in treatment to learn how to live their lives effectively and we do not expect them to have all the answers. We recognize relapse can be a part of recovery. We understand and accept that a critical element of treatment is educating the client in making effective and productive choices/changes, which is accomplished by focusing on positive rather than negative actions, attitudes, and behaviors.
