How to Get Clean and Sober in 3 Steps

Making the decision to get help for a drug or alcohol addiction is hard. Choosing how to get clean and sober can be even harder.

The options can be overwhelming — especially if your mind is clouded by active addiction.

When it comes down to it, though, recovery from drug and alcohol addiction is simple. To get started, you really only need three things:
  1. Honesty
  2. Open-mindedness
  3. Willingness

Honesty means admitting to yourself – and probably to others – that you have a problem.

You don’t have to live that way any more, as long as you have #2: open-mindedness.

To truly recover, you have to stretch your mind enough to consider that recovery might be possible for you. You have to open your mind to new ideas, new ways of life, and even new aspects of your own identity.

But believing it doesn’t mean anything unless you are willing to take action.
